Bonhams Appoints Michael Squire and Robert Glover to Lead Cars Department in UK and Europe
The Facts
Bonhams has confirmed key appointments to strengthen its Cars Department leadership, naming Michael Squire as Head of Europe and Robert Glover as Head of UK. The announcement follows Julie David's appointment as Global Managing Director of the Car, Motorcycle and Automobilia department in March. Squire joins from another auction house where he served as Director of Research and Specialist, and previously worked at CKL Developments and Gordon Murray Design. Glover rejoins Bonhams from a rival auction house where he was Head of UK Consignments, having earlier led a company specializing in vintage and classic sports cars. Tim Schofield, formerly Head of UK, has moved to a new role as Head of UK Business Development, focusing on client relationships and private collections. All four will be present at the Bonhams pavilion at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 9-12.
The Signal
The appointments signal Bonhams' strategic push to consolidate its position in the collector car auction market, particularly in the UK and Europe, where competition among houses like RM Sotheby's and Gooding & Company is intense. By bringing in specialists with deep client networks and consignment experience, Bonhams aims to secure high-value collections and private treaty sales. The reshuffled leadership, including Schofield's new business development role, suggests a focus on mining existing relationships for off-market deals. For collectors, these moves may indicate a more aggressive pursuit of top-tier consignments, potentially affecting auction estimates and availability of rare models.
