Bonhams TCM-Curated Auction to Offer Maltese Falcon Statuette and Casablanca Car
Bonhams will hold a special auction of more than 300 pieces of movie memorabilia in New York in conjunction with Turner Classic Movies. The sale includes the lead statuette from the 1941 film The Maltese Falcon, which has an exhibition history at the Pompidou Centre, the Museum of Modern Art and the Warner Bros. Studio Museum, along with Sam Spade's burgundy leather chair from the same film. Additional highlights comprise the 1940 Buick Phaeton automobile from Casablanca estimated at $450,000-500,000, Steve McQueen's jacket from Le Mans estimated at $80,000-120,000, and costumes from Batman, Gone with the Wind and other productions.
The Signal
The offering demonstrates sustained collector demand for objects with strong film provenance and institutional exhibition records. Items carrying Warner Bros. inventory numbers and documented appearances in multiple productions provide measurable benchmarks for the entertainment memorabilia sector. Catherine Williamson, Bonhams Director of Fine Books and Manuscripts and Entertainment Memorabilia, noted the auction supplies institutions and private buyers with key artifacts from cinema history.
