THE ROLE
We are seeking Temporary Event Staff to support Sotheby’s Luxury Week, a premier high jewelry and timepiece exhibition event. This role plays a critical part in delivering a seamless, high-touch client experience while supporting the handling and presentation of exceptional, high-value pieces. Candidates must be available to work June 10th – June 15th, 9:00am – 6:00pm EST in NYC.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- In the extensive chain of client interaction at Sotheby’s, the Client Services Department is the first and most highly visible link. It is the responsibility of the team to set the tone for the highest standard of client experience throughout the organization.
- You are the first point of contact for clients in person; available to assist our Client Services staff with language support, relay with clients and specialists, and are responsible for translating and sharing high level information on the exhibition.
- Maintain careful handling and security of all items, adhering to strict protocols for high-value assets
- Provide onsite support during dealer view and client-facing periods, ensuring a polished and seamless client experience
- Partner with internal teams to facilitate client interactions, including assisting with inquiries and directing clients appropriately
- Assist with the release of property to clients and dealers, ensuring accuracy, professionalism, and compliance with procedures
- Maintain a professional presence at all times, representing the Sotheby’s brand standards in a high-touch, luxury environment
- Adhere to all security requirements, including background/credit check protocols and coordination with onsite security teams
- Follow strict dress code and conduct guidelines appropriate for a luxury client-facing environment as determined by Sotheby’s
- Participate in required pre-event training (webinar or on-site) and comply with all event procedures
IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
- Ability to create a premier client experience in any environment
- People-centric demeanor with an ability to multi-task in a high traffic environment
- Previous experience in client service, luxury, or hospitality, driven industry
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a pleasant client service-oriented attitude
- Proven experience employing problem solving skills when dealing with internal and external clients
- Team player with a positive working rapport with colleagues
- Ability to stand for entire shift required
- Prior experience in high jewelry/luxury timepieces a plus
- Appropriate professional attire required at all times during working hours (see Dress Code below)
REQUIRED DRESS CODE
- Solid, neutral colors only: black, brown, grey, or navy
- No prints, sneakers, leggings, jeans, or t-shirts
- Business attire required
- Gentlemen must wear a dark suit and tie
The proposed base hourly rate for this position is $23.00 - $25.00. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
