Christie’s, the world’s leading art business, is looking for an experienced Public Relations executive to join its Americas team, based at our flagship galleries in Rockefeller Center. The successful candidate will have a deep affinity for the types of luxury items that Christie’s sells, including Fine Jewelry, Watches, Handbags, Wine and Cars, as well as other exceptional collecting categories, as required. Applicants for this role
must have
a proven track record of success with high-quality media placements, and a solid network of editorial contacts in the luxury and consumer lifestyle space. Understanding of, and
experience
with, a reseller environment or auction marketplace is a plus. To be considered for this role, the candidate must be a highly organized self-starter, with a strategic mindset, who can create media campaigns, turn auction sales into compelling stories, build and strengthen Christie's s relationships with journalists, and operate in a sophisticated, international business environment that requires the ability to satisfy clients selling works of art, auction house executives, and media community. They should also be collaborative, with a focus on building and strengthening internal relationships across a multitude of departments, including specialist departments, Marketing, Content, Editorial, Events, Partnerships, etc.
Must have
equal facility with pitching stories for print, broadcast and digital outlets, and a proven ability to plan both short- and long-lead campaigns. The candidate will also be creative to cut through the clutter of the media landscape, engaging content creators and developing ideas for events. This role works cross-functionally within the company, with sole responsibility for representing a range of collecting categories, sales, and topics.
How You'll Make an Impact
Work in collaboration with department heads, specialists and marketing team to develop and execute effective media campaigns, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative storytelling approaches. Secure a high volume of earned media coverage that supports the promotional goals of each department in the portfolio, and measure and report your progress. Work in collaboration with fellow PR colleagues in the Americas, Europe and Asia to support global campaigns and sale-related tours; closely choreograph media campaigns for maximum outreach.
Develop and drive trend- and data-based collecting stories and create strategic plans for building the media profiles of key specialists and executives. Plan and oversee media interviews, press previews, media events and speaking engagements for each collecting area within the Luxury portfolio. Expand and develop relationships with key journalists on behalf of the portfolio group, with particular focus on luxury, lifestyle and mainstream news outlets as well as trade media for individual categories.
Coordinate closely with related marketing functions to create integrated campaigns, including Christie’s social media, content, special events, and strategic partnerships teams. Act as a qualified spokesperson on behalf of
the company
when required. What you’ll bring to
the team
Degree in journalism, communications, public relations or equivalent field; or an undergraduate degree with at least five (5) years of related work experience, preferably within the consumer luxury industry. Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills, strong organizational and project management skills, and a collaborative, team-oriented approach required. Must enjoy working in a fast-paced, creative environment with multiple projects at once.
Knowledge of basic Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as image editing, online video editing and social media apps required. Familiarity with media databases and analysis tools and ability to learn Christie’s proprietary systems required. Minimal travel required, and mainly within the Americas.
