Centre Pompidou Details History of Ircam Acoustic Laboratory and Architectural Evolution
The Centre Pompidou has released a historical overview of Ircam, the underground musical research institute conceived by Pierre Boulez and designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers. Originally completed in October 1978, the 3,500-square-meter subterranean facility features the 'Espro' reconfigurable acoustic box and an anechoic chamber located 16 meters below ground. The complex was later expanded in 1990 with an administrative tower by Piano and further renovated in 1996 by the Canal agency.
