Daniel Garza-Usabiaga Appointed Artistic Director of Zona Maco
Daniel Garza-Usabiaga has been appointed artistic director of Zona Maco, the art fair in Mexico City. He replaces Pablo del Val, who led the fair since 2012 and is moving to Art Dubai to serve as director of exhibitor relations. Garza-Usabiaga previously served as curator at the Museo de Arte Moderno, Mexico City, and at the Museo Universitario del Chopo, and curated Zona Maco's modern art section in 2013. He currently sits on the selection committee of Zona Maco Foto.
The Signal
The appointment signals a generational and curatorial shift for one of Latin America's leading art fairs. Garza-Usabiaga's deep institutional experience in Mexico City's museum sector and his prior involvement with the fair's programming suggest a focus on curatorial continuity and regional identity. For collectors watching Latin American art, this change could influence the fair's positioning as a gateway to contemporary art from the region, while del Val's move to Art Dubai reflects the growing global cross-pollination of art-fair leadership.
