Eddie Martinez's World Cup Sculpture Installed in Newark; Monograph and Museum Shows Announced

On July 21, 2026, Galerie Max Hetzler announced that Eddie Martinez's commission for The Art of the Game, a public art program presented by ARTS 14C in partnership with the New York New Jersey 2026 World Cup Host Committee, is installed at Riverfront Park, Newark. Created for FIFA World Cup 2026, the program transforms the world's most recognized symbol of sport into monumental public sculptures by twenty-three internationally recognized artists. His work is also included in the group exhibition Let Us Gather in a Flourishing Way at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, later traveling to the Des Moines Art Center; Museum of Contemporary Art Denver; Phoenix Art Museum; and Frye Art Museum, Seattle, exploring contemporary Latinx artists' innovations within painting traditions.
