David Aubert was a prominent 15th-century French calligrapher and scribe known for producing illuminated manuscripts for the Burgundian court.
Active during the 15th century, David Aubert served as a professional scribe and adapter of literary texts for the court of the Dukes of Burgundy. He operated primarily within the manuscript production centers of the Burgundian Netherlands, most notably in Bruges.
His work involved the transcription and adaptation of courtly romances and historical chronicles. He was commissioned by high-ranking patrons including Philip the Good, Charles the Bold, Margaret of York, Antoine de Bourgogne, and Philippe de Croy to produce finely crafted, illuminated volumes.
