Born in Athens, Ohio, to Chinese immigrant parents, Maya Lin pursued her education at Yale University, where she earned both her undergraduate degree and a Master of Architecture. She achieved national prominence while still an undergraduate student when her design for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was selected through a blind competition in 1981.
