Gagosian Artist Giuseppe Penone Exhibits at 69th Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto
On June 18, 2026, Giuseppe Penone is collaborating with the 69th Festival dei Due Mondi to present the thirty-foot-tall cast bronze sculpture Le foglie delle radici (The Leaves of Roots) (2011) at Piazza Pianciani in Spoleto, Italy. The work, which features living vegetation atop inverted roots, appears on the 2026 festival poster. Anafora, an exhibition curated by Saverio Verini at Palazzo Collicola, places additional Penone sculptures in dialogue with the piano nobile architecture, while seven videos titled Ephemeris are on view at Ex Battistero della Manna d’Oro.
The Signal
The festival placement underscores Penone’s ongoing use of historic Italian sites to stage large-scale works that merge bronze forms with living elements. Collectors may note the public presentation as a marker of institutional visibility that often precedes secondary-market interest in comparable sculptures. The accompanying videos provide direct documentation of the artist’s making process, offering curators and institutions additional material for future programming.
