Gallerie dell'Accademia Hosts Leiko Ikemura Exhibition for Venice Glass Week
The Gallerie dell'Accademia will host the exhibition titled 'Leiko Ikemura: TransLucent - The Form of Light' from 10 September to 22 November during the ninth edition of The Venice Glass Week 2026. The show is supported by the Ikemura Foundation and places sculptures by the Japanese artist Leiko Ikemura, some produced at a Murano glassworks, in dialogue with the museum's permanent collection on the ground and first floors, including the Palladian courtyard. Works will be shown alongside pieces by Carpaccio, Giambattista Tiepolo, Canova and Titian, with the series Sleeping Heads forming a central element that engages Venetian female iconography.
The Signal
The presentation underscores Ikemura's long-standing exploration of transition, cross-cultural identity and the feminine body through monumental glass, ceramic and glazed terracotta sculptures alongside paintings and works on paper. By inserting contemporary glass forms into the historic spaces of one of Venice's principal museums, the exhibition signals continued institutional interest in cross-medium and cross-cultural dialogues during major Venetian events.
