Guggenheim New York Presents Gordon and Parreno Zidane Film on 20th Anniversary
On June 10, 2026, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum announced the presentation of Collection in Focus | Zidane, a 21st century portrait (2006) by Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno from June 11 through July 19 in the Peter B. Lewis Theater. The 90-minute film, acquired by the museum in 2006, screens continuously and marks the first public showing at the Guggenheim since acquisition. Select World Cup matches will be livestreamed on Friday afternoons June 12, 19, 26 and July 3 and 10 at Frank’s Pub, a pop-up in the Wright restaurant, free with museum admission.
The Signal
The presentation underscores the Guggenheim’s strategy of activating its video and time-based media holdings during major cultural moments, linking a key work in its collection to the global reach of the World Cup. By pairing the film’s multi-camera portrait of Zidane with live broadcasts, the museum highlights how institutions can extend exhibition programming beyond gallery walls to engage broader audiences. This sixth installment of the Collection in Focus series demonstrates a deliberate approach to making significant acquisitions more accessible while reinforcing the museum’s position in contemporary media art.
