The Facts

On December 3, 2024, Kunsthaus Zürich announced it will join 'Connect', a dance training program for people living with Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis. The pilot phase, launched last February by Ballet Zürich, Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich, performance group The Field and the Dance & Creative Wellness Foundation, is now expanding from two to three training groups led by Clare Guss-West. Several sessions will take place in the Kunsthaus's exhibition galleries, adding art encounters to existing visits to the Opernhaus Zürich and Tonhalle Orchestra. Kunsthaus director Ann Demeester said the museum hopes to extend the beneficial effect of art to more people, building on its 'Aufgeweckte Kunst-Geschichten' program for people with dementia.

The Signal

The expansion signals a broader shift in Zurich's cultural institutions toward health-focused programming, with museums and performing-arts groups pooling resources. For arts professionals, it reinforces the museum's role as a social space and demonstrates art's measurable impact on well-being. Kunsthaus participation, from one of Switzerland's leading museums, could encourage similar collaborations elsewhere, making arts-based health programs a more permanent feature of institutional strategy.
