Kunsthaus Zürich Reports 513,162 Visitors, Deficit Reduced to CHF 1.53M in 2024
The Facts
Kunsthaus Zürich recorded 513,162 admissions in 2024, according to its annual report published on April 29, 2025. The museum reduced its operating deficit to CHF 1,529,489, a decrease of CHF 56,490 from the previous year and roughly 50% better than budgeted. Own revenue rose across multiple streams: ticket sales reached CHF 5,534,047 (up CHF 977,939), rentals and events generated CHF 1,724,919 (up 7%), and fundraising and partnerships brought in CHF 3,850,486 (up CHF 1,762,910). Membership contributions remained stable at CHF 2,651,926 despite a slight decline in member numbers following a price adjustment tied to the museum's expansion.
The Signal
The results mark early progress toward Kunsthaus Zürich's goal of a balanced budget by 2027, though management stressed that long-term operational costs—particularly since the opening of the extension building—cannot be covered by earned income alone. The museum's self-financing ratio remains exceptionally high by national and international standards, but structural funding challenges persist. New partnership models and pilot projects are under development to further strengthen the institution's financial base. The annual report will be made public after the general assembly on May 26, 2025.
