Kunsthaus Zürich Reports 513,162 Visitors in 2024, Extends Abramović Exhibition Hours
On February 5, 2025, Kunsthaus Zürich announced that it recorded 513,162 visitors in 2024, one of the highest attendance figures in its history, up from 504,349 in 2023. The museum attributed the success to its attractive program and high-caliber collection, which increasingly draws international audiences. The most popular exhibition of 2024 was "Matthew Wong – Vincent van Gogh. Letzte Zuflucht Malerei," which attracted 63,496 visitors. Due to strong public interest, the museum is extending hours for its Marina Abramović exhibition on its final weekend: Friday, February 14, and Saturday, February 15, 2025, until 10 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through February 16, 2025.
The Signal
The attendance milestone underscores Kunsthaus Zürich's growing pull as a destination for contemporary and modern art, particularly after the 2022 expansion. The extended hours for Abramović signal exceptional demand for the performance artist's work, a trend seen globally. The pairing of Matthew Wong with Vincent van Gogh in a single exhibition proved a major draw, suggesting that cross-generational dialogues between contemporary and historical artists resonate strongly with audiences. For collectors and curators, these figures reinforce Zürich's position as a key European art hub, with the museum's programming driving both local engagement and international tourism.
