Museum Kunsthaus Zürich

The Kunsthaus Zürich recorded 539,500 visitors in 2025, the second-highest annual total in its history and the highest among Swiss art museums. The Marina Abramović exhibition drew nearly 120,000 visitors, the strongest result for any show in twelve years, while the collection attracted 247,800 entries. The institution posted a CHF 1.43 million loss, an improvement on the prior year and budget, aided by the sale of a work from the Carl Sachs collection whose proceeds went to the acquisition fund. A new PerArte Stiftung established by Marianne and Martin Haefner will support future international exhibitions.

The Signal

The sustained attendance and diversified own-income streams, including CHF 5.59 million in ticket sales and CHF 4.85 million in fundraising, underscore the museum’s strong public engagement and mixed funding model. Persistent structural cost pressures from the expanded Chipperfield building continue to require higher public subsidies, as requested from the City of Zurich in 2024. For collectors and curators the figures confirm the Kunsthaus’s role as a reliable platform for both historical and contemporary projects with measurable audience reach.
