Laura Lamiel's Site-Specific Works Install at Bourse de Commerce Passage
The Facts
Laura Lamiel has created a group of works for the Passage display cases at the Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection in Paris, on view through September 21, 2026. The exhibition, titled 'They make a sound like wings, like leaves, like sand,' was developed over eight months in the artist's studio, where she drew inspiration from the films of Andrei Tarkovsky and poems by his father Arseny Tarkovsky. Lamiel's pieces incorporate one-way mirrors, neon tubes, water-absorbent cotton coats, and rubber strips, all arranged to explore light, memory, and literary echoes. The display cases are positioned off the ground, creating what Lamiel describes as an invisible base, and the installation is designed to be navigated like a musical score, with each case following the next.
The Signal
The project marks a continuation of Bourse de Commerce's practice of inviting contemporary artists to respond to its architectural features, following previous interventions in the same space. Lamiel's emphasis on intuition and literary reference—citing Jean Genet and Sadegh Hedayat—positions her work within a lineage of artists who treat the exhibition space as a three-dimensional canvas for philosophical and sensory exploration. For collectors, this installation reinforces the value of site-specific, research-driven practices that engage with both the history of the institution and the medium of light itself.
