The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has commissioned two new artworks by Lauren Halsey for the opening of the David Geffen Galleries on April 19, 2026. The commission includes a ten-foot-long reclining sphinx sculpture and a large-scale wall relief installed within the museum's Mediterranean galleries. These works integrate contemporary records of Black culture in Los Angeles with historical and mythical motifs to engage with the museum's collection of ancient Egyptian, Greco-Roman, and Nubian objects.
