M+ Hong Kong Presents 'Design Ah! Experience the Wonder of Everyday Design' from June 27
M+, Asia's global museum of contemporary visual culture in Hong Kong's West Kowloon Cultural District, will open the interactive family-friendly exhibition 'Design Ah! Experience the Wonder of Everyday Design' on June 27, 2026, running through January 10, 2027. The exhibition, based on NHK's children's educational television program 'Design Ah! neo,' features 21 hands-on stations organized around ten daily actions such as walking, eating, and sitting, with references to Hong Kong's visual environment and culinary traditions. A facade commission, 'M+ Ah!', will be displayed nightly from June 26 to October 11, 2026, featuring playful short videos adapted for Hong Kong. Tickets are HKD 190 for adults and HKD 100 for concessions, with combo options available.
The Signal
The exhibition underscores M+'s strategy of making design accessible to broad audiences, particularly families and young visitors, through experiential learning. By adapting a popular Japanese educational program with local Hong Kong elements, M+ continues to position itself as a cross-cultural hub that blends playfulness with rigorous curatorial practice. The show's emphasis on everyday objects and sensory engagement aligns with a growing institutional trend toward participatory, design-focused exhibitions that foster curiosity and human connection, while the accompanying merchandise and public programs extend the museum's reach beyond the gallery walls.
