MAXXI L'Aquila to Host Ai Weiwei Career Survey Featuring New Sculptures and Earthquake-Inspired Works
MAXXI L'Aquila will present a major exhibition of Ai Weiwei’s five-decade career from April 29 to September 6, 2026. The survey includes early New York works from the 1980s alongside new sculptures created in Ukraine in 2025. Central to the exhibition is a series of works addressing the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, installed within the Palazzo Ardinghelli to parallel L’Aquila’s own recovery from the 2009 earthquake.
