The Mori Contemporary Art Foundation and Mori Art Museum will open a solo exhibition by Katayama Mari, winner of the inaugural Mori Art Award Grand Prize, on October 31, 2026, running through March 28, 2027, at the museum's Small Exhibition Gallery in Tokyo. Katayama received ¥10 million and the opportunity for the show, selected by an International Jury from a shortlist of mid-career Japanese artists or those with strong ties to Japan, after a review of exhibitions and works from the prior two years. The jury praised her use of analogue photography and handicraft practices such as embroidery to expand the boundaries of her own body. The exhibition will feature her "tree of life" series (2024-), recently acquired by the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, which was key to her selection; the other three finalists each received ¥1 million.
