On July 28, 2026, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi announced that Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will open on December 11, 2026, in the Saadiyat Cultural District. Designed by the late Frank Gehry, the museum features 30 galleries across 11,600 square meters of interior space and 23,000 square meters of outdoor exhibition areas, with a total built-up area of 80,000 square meters. The museum will focus on modern and contemporary art from the 1960s onward, with an emphasis on West Asia, North Africa, South Asia, and the wider region. It is a collaboration between DCT Abu Dhabi and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, joining the Guggenheim constellation in New York, Venice, and Bilbao.
The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi finally sets a December 2026 opening after years of delays, putting the Saadiyat Cultural District's full lineup on the calendar.

The Week in Brief
The Pattern
Exhibition openings dominate the week (31 of 49 stories), with London and New York as top cities, but Seoul emerges as a secondary hub via two separate gallery announcements — institutional vs. market balance tilts heavily toward the former.
Looking Ahead
Tomorrow Sally Mann speaks at Martha's Vineyard; this week's headline is the Aspen Art Museum's ArtCrush auction on July 31 featuring Kelly Akashi's work.
