Mori Art Museum Plans Major Mariko Mori Retrospective 'All That Shines' for October 2026

The Mori Art Museum in Tokyo will present "Mariko Mori: All That Shines," Japan's first major retrospective of the artist since 2002, from October 31, 2026, to March 28, 2027. Organized in collaboration with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, the exhibition features some forty works spanning over three decades, including performance-based photography, video, sculpture, and large-scale interactive installations. The show is co-curated by Alexandra Munroe, Senior Curator at Large at the Guggenheim, and Kataoka Mami, Director of the Mori Art Museum. Highlights include Wave UFO (1999–2002), the first artwork to use brainwave bio-feedback, and Tom Na H-iu (2006), which visualizes neutrinos from supernovae as light.

The Mori is betting on two generations of Japanese women artists simultaneously — a curatorial double-header that makes October the month to watch in Tokyo.
