Good morning. The week opens with institutional tributes to Georg Baselitz, as the Bavarian State Paintings Collection mounts a memorial drawn from its own holdings.

THE LEAD

Mori Art Museum to Present 'Mariko Mori: All That Shines' Retrospective Starting October 31, 2026

via Mori Art Museum

The Mori Art Museum in Tokyo will host 'Mariko Mori: All That Shines,' Japan's first major retrospective of the artist since 2002, running from October 31, 2026, to March 28, 2027. Organized in collaboration with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, the exhibition features approximately 40 works spanning three decades, including performance-based photography, video, drawing, sculpture, and large-scale interactive installations. Co-curated by Alexandra Munroe, Senior Curator at Large at the Guggenheim, and Kataoka Mami, Director of the Mori Art Museum, the show surveys Mori's evolution from her 'Cyborg' series and sci-fi imagery to metaphysical works informed by Buddhist concepts and astrophysics.

The Bavarian State Paintings Collection's decision to mount a memorial from its own 31 works underscores Baselitz's institutional weight in Germany.
