Tyler Mitchell Wins 2026 Don Tyson Prize, Gagosian Announces

On September 22, 2026, Gagosian announced that Tyler Mitchell has been awarded the 2026 Don Tyson Prize for the Advancement of American Art by the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas. The prize recognizes a US-based individual or institution whose work is changing how the public looks at, thinks about, or experiences American art. Established in 2016 through an endowment from the late Don Tyson, former chairman and CEO of Tyson Foods, the prize was previously given biennially; this year marks the first time it is awarded annually.

The $200,000 award, announced by Gagosian, positions Mitchell among a short list of photographers honored by Crystal Bridges since its founding.
