Exhibition Bourse de Commerce — Pinault Collection

The Facts

The Pinault Collection will present Barbara Kruger's exhibition 'The History of Tears' at the Bourse de Commerce in Paris, opening October 7, 2026. Curated by Matthieu Humery with Lola Regard, the installation is designed for the museum's Rotunda and 24 Display Cases, filling Tadao Ando's curved walls with literary quotes from George Orwell's '1984' and Aimé Césaire's 'Journal of a Homecoming' and turning the Passage cases into lightboxes carrying Kruger's messages. It includes two videos, among them 'Power, Pleasure, Desire, Disgust,' first shown at the Wexner Center for the Arts in 1996. Tickets are €15 full price and €10 for ages 18–26; the ticket also covers the 'Remember Me' exhibition.

The Signal

Kruger, whose practice is rooted in photomontage and slogan texts, here extends her critique of power and consumer imagery through film, audio, and illuminated cases. The commission gives the Pinault Collection a large-scale statement by a major American artist and may signal renewed institutional attention to politically engaged, text-based work. For collectors, it reinforces Kruger's standing as a market-relevant figure whose installations—not only her prints—are receiving curatorial validation.
