Serpentine South to Show Jesús Rafael Soto Pénétrable BBL Jaune Through October
Serpentine South will present Pénétrable BBL Jaune (1999; 2023 Edition) by Jesús Rafael Soto from June 16 to October 25, 2026. This marks the first outdoor presentation of the artist’s work in the UK. The installation forms part of Serpentine’s year-round program that places art in the surrounding park landscape. Born in Venezuela in 1923, Soto created more than seventy Pénétrable sculptures inviting viewers to enter structures of metal rods and nylon strands.
The Signal
The placement of a major kinetic work in a prominent London public space reflects sustained institutional focus on interactive Latin American modernism. Collectors and curators may view the project as an indicator of continued demand for Soto’s participatory sculptures in outdoor settings. Sponsorship by Kenneth C. Griffin through Griffin Catalyst further signals high-level private support for such commissions.
