SFMOMA to Present Major Exhibition on Matisse’s 'Femme au chapeau' in May 2026
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) will host 'Matisse’s Femme au chapeau: A Modern Scandal' from May 16 to September 13, 2026. The exhibition focuses on the 1905 Fauvist masterpiece, featuring a restaging of its debut at the Salon d’Automne alongside works by André Derain, Maurice de Vlaminck, and contemporary artists. Due to the terms of the 1991 Elise S. Haas bequest, the painting does not travel, making SFMOMA the exclusive venue for the presentation.
