The Facts
On September 8, 2026, Sharjah Art Foundation announced its new Music and Sound Club, a programme of workshops and meetup sessions focused on collective learning and community building in music and sonic arts. Running from September 20 to November 26, 2026, at the Photography Gallery in Al Manakh, Sharjah, the programme includes bi-weekly workshops and fortnightly meetups exploring tape and cassette as mediums of composition and the synthesis of AI with new musical technologies. Sessions include Tape Loop Manipulation on September 20, a two-part AI and Music Technology workshop on October 4 and 18, and a session bridging analogue and digital on November 8. Meetups occur on September 24; October 8 and 22; and November 12 and 26, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. The programme concludes on November 22 with participant performances.
The Signal
The programme reflects Sharjah Art Foundation's strategy of broadening its experimental programming beyond the long-running Sharjah Biennial and March Meeting, engaging local communities through hands-on, accessible education. By focusing on both analogue tape techniques and AI tools, the initiative signals the Foundation's commitment to bridging traditional and emerging technologies in the arts—a direction that may inform how regional institutions approach music and sound pedagogy. For artists and musicians in the Gulf, such workshops offer rare access to collective experimentation and could help build a more connected sound-art community in the region.
