The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam has covered its entire glass façade in multicolored polka dots designed by Yayoi Kusama Studio, ahead of the opening of a major survey of the artist's work on September 11, 2026. The exterior transformation extends to Museumplein, where Kusama's work "Ascension of Polka Dots on the Trees" will be installed across rows of trees opposite the museum, wrapping trunks and branches in red fabric with white polka dots. First presented at the Kirishima Open Air Museum in Japan in 2002, the work has previously appeared in London, Helsinki, New York, and Melbourne. The exhibition, developed in close collaboration with Kusama and her studio, spans more than seventy years of her career and includes recent works from Tokyo as well as a new immersive installation created for the Stedelijk. Following Kusama's recent passing, the show has taken on added significance as a tribute to her legacy.
