The Facts
On April 29, 2026, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam announced a collaboration with Samsung that puts 30 works from its collection on Samsung Frame TV through the Samsung Art Store. The selection spans Monet, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Breitner, Jan and Charley Toorop, Malevich, Kandinsky, Matisse and others, viewable in high resolution from home. Director Rein Wolfs said the partnership brings art into daily life. The Samsung Art Store already carries thousands of artworks from collections including the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Tate, and MoMA.
The Signal
The Stedelijk’s move signals how major museums are treating consumer technology platforms as a new distribution channel for permanent collections. For audiences, the Frame TV device makes museum-quality images part of domestic space, yet it complements rather than replaces the experience of seeing works in person. The company the Stedelijk now keeps on the platform — national peers and international institutions such as Tate and MoMA — also reinforces the brand value of its modern-art holdings.
