Tate Britain Unveils Major Immersive Commission by Zineb Sedira Exploring African Cinema
Tate Britain has announced a new site-specific commission by artist Zineb Sedira titled 'When Words Fall Silent, Cinema Speaks...', scheduled to run from May 13, 2026, to January 17, 2027. The installation transforms the Duveen Galleries into an immersive environment featuring a recreated 1960s Parisian café, a cinema, and vintage film equipment to explore the legacy of activist filmmaking in post-independence Algeria. The project incorporates archival imagery, a newly commissioned film, and a re-engineered Scopitone jukebox playing excerpts from Agnès Varda’s work.
