Thaddaeus Ropac Features Jack Pierson 'Hope' Word Collage for Museum Corridor
June 18, 2026, New York-based photographer Jack Pierson has installed a Word Collage spelling “Hope” using vintage signage along a prominent corridor leading into the center’s museum. Pierson began producing these works in 1991 and has made at least one prior version reading “Hope.” Three-quarters of the letters derive from signage he has collected over 30 years, including a large “O” referencing the Obamas and an ornate “P” acquired on a recent Southern road trip.
The Signal
The piece reflects Pierson’s view that hope has grown more significant amid global conditions over the past decade, though he noted it is only one of several remaining resources. Alternative words such as “Amen” were considered but rejected for lesser impact. The work extends Pierson’s ongoing use of found signage as material in his practice.
