Thaddaeus Ropac Presents 'Barceló Printmaker' with 30 Recent Prints
On June 11, 2026, Thaddaeus Ropac opened the exhibition Barceló Printmaker, which presents around thirty prints by Miquel Barceló, most of them recent and produced at the Barcelona workshop of Joan Roma and Takeshi Motomiya. Barceló has collaborated with the printers since 2010 and has explored etching, aquatint, carborundum, woodcut, lithography and silkscreen. The works on view include a 2015 series of woodcuts depicting writers such as Guy de Maupassant, Anna Akhmatova and Ezra Pound, images of marine creatures and animals, a self-portrait, and three recent books.
The Signal
The sustained partnership with Roma and Motomiya, who previously worked with Antoni Tàpies, demonstrates Barceló’s ongoing technical experimentation across media. Curator Enrique Juncosa, who has organized multiple Barceló exhibitions including the Spanish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, brings specialist context to the presentation through the inclusion of his own poems alongside the artist’s prints. For collectors, the show highlights the range of Barceló’s print output and the continued relevance of his collaborations with established workshops.
