Thaddaeus Ropac Shows Oskar Schlemmer Wire Sculpture at Art Basel Unlimited
On June 17, 2026, Thaddaeus Ropac presented details of its contribution to Art Basel Unlimited, the fair section devoted to large-scale works. The 59 projects span nearly 100 years and include the 1930-31 wall-mounted wire sculpture Homo, Composition in Metal by Oskar Schlemmer, shown jointly with Leandro Navarro. Curator Ruba Katrib, chief curator and director of curatorial affairs at MoMA PS1, noted that the floorplan choreography creates constellations in which one group of works speaks to another.
The Signal
The emphasis on both chronological range and sustained bodies of work signals that Unlimited continues to position large-scale projects as central to the fair’s market narrative. Collectors and curators may read the Schlemmer inclusion as evidence that historical pieces can anchor contemporary dialogues around monumentality and spatial experience, potentially affecting acquisition strategies for similar mid-scale sculptures.
