The Facts

On July 15, 2026, the Victoria and Albert Museum announced its 2027 exhibition programme spanning three sites: V&A South Kensington, V&A East Museum, and V&A Dundee. The five exhibitions include 'Punk to Pop' (March 13, 2027 – January 2, 2028), an immersive celebration of music and culture from 1972–1985; 'Sculpture in Clay' (May 29, 2027 – February 6, 2028), surveying British artists including Jacqueline Poncelet, Antony Gormley, and Edmund de Waal; and 'Chintz' (September 18, 2027 – June 4, 2028), tracing the 400-year history of South Indian fabric using the V&A's collection and the Karun Thakar collection. At V&A East Museum, 'South Asia Now: Fashion. Art. Design.' (April 24, 2027 – January 23, 2028) presents over 200 works from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. In Dundee, 'Vivienne Westwood & Jewellery' (March 26, 2027 – January 1, 2028) explores the role of jewellery in the designer's work, making its UK debut.

The Signal

The programme reflects the V&A's strategy of addressing contemporary cultural movements alongside historical narratives, with a particular emphasis on global perspectives. The 'South Asia Now' exhibition at the new V&A East Museum positions the institution within a broader focus on non-Western contemporary creativity, while 'Sculpture in Clay' signals growing institutional validation of ceramic art as a radical medium. The Westwood exhibition in Dundee reinforces the museum's regional engagement and draws on the designer's ties to Scottish textiles and culture.
