V&A to Display Ukrainian Monastic Treasures in UK for First Time
The Facts
On August 13, 2026, the Victoria and Albert Museum announced 'Sacred Treasures from Kyiv', a display of seven 18th-century sacred objects on loan from Ukraine's National Preserve ‘Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra’, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Opening September 14, 2026, and running through September 17, 2027, in the Silver Gallery and Sacred Silver and Stained Glass Galleries at V&A South Kensington, the free exhibition features items including an icon, a silver-bound altar Gospel, a diskos, and a silver-gilt chalice. These works, shown in the UK for the first time, highlight the Lavra's role as a center of Ukrainian Baroque goldsmithing and sacred art. The display builds on a multi-year partnership between the V&A and the Lavra, focused on provenance research into two pairs of silver-gilt Holy gates in the Gilbert Collection that originated from the monastery.
