The Facts
Almine Rech has announced that Keita Morimoto's painting "Distance from Light" (2025) is now part of the collection of SOLO Independencia in Madrid, Spain. The work, executed in acrylic and oil on linen, measures 291.2 x 218.5 x 4.3 cm, or approximately 114 1/2 x 86 x 1 1/2 inches. Morimoto, a Japanese-Canadian artist known for scenes of illuminated urban environments, continues to gain institutional recognition in Europe.
The Signal
The acquisition places a significant large-scale painting by the artist into a Spanish institutional collection, signaling growing international demand for Morimoto's work beyond his primary market in Asia and North America. For collectors, institutional acceptance of this kind can reinforce long-term value and visibility, particularly for a contemporary artist whose market is still developing. It also underscores the widening presence of younger contemporary painters in European private and institutional collections.
