What we publish, where it comes from, and how we fix it when we get it wrong.
Every story starts from a primary source: a press release or announcement published by the auction house, gallery, museum, fair, or foundation it concerns. We do not republish other outlets’ reporting, rumor, or anonymous tips. Each story names its source and links to the original release, so any reader can check what was actually announced.
Our software reads each source’s press room every few hours. Language models help us condense a release into two parts, kept visibly separate on every story: The Facts, which states only what the release says, and The Signal, a short note on why it matters to collectors, curators, and artists. The Signal interprets. It never adds facts, figures, or dates.
Automated checks run before anything publishes. Dates in a story must appear in the source. A release older than ten days is not presented as news. Past exhibitions are retired from the front page rather than shown as current. Feature images are the institution’s own press images where available, and any stand-in photograph is captioned as exactly that.
Independent. No marketplace, no gallery advertising, no auction-house sponsors.
No institution pays for coverage or for placement, and nothing we report on is sold here. Links to our sister products (Art Collector IQ, Art Gallery IQ, ArtCheck) are labelled as ours.
If a story misstates a fact, date, name, or figure, write to hello@culturalsignal.com with the story’s link. We check the claim against the original release. Errors are corrected in the story. A story found to rest on an outdated or misread release is withdrawn.
Institutions can use the same address to correct or update a release we have covered.
The news here is free. When you’re ready to go deeper, these are the premium tools behind it.
