ARCOlisboa's Ninth Edition Closes with Strong Sales and Multiple Institutional Acquisitions
ARCOlisboa's ninth edition closed with 83 galleries from 17 countries participating at the Cordoaria Nacional in Lisbon. The fair drew more than 15,000 visitors, including free-admission days for those under 25 supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. The Câmara Municipal de Lisboa acquired 25 works by 17 artists, while the Fundación ARCO purchased pieces by Susana Rocha and Diogo Nogueira. Awards included the Fundação Millennium bcp prize for Lehmann gallery and the Opening Lisboa Award for Espacio218.
The Signal
The acquisitions and awards signal sustained institutional confidence in Portuguese and international contemporary art, with Lisbon reinforcing its role as a European collecting hub. Collectors and curators can note the fair's emphasis on emerging Portuguese artists through targeted purchases by MACAM and FLAD, indicating active market support for local ecosystems ahead of the tenth edition in 2027.
