Art Basel Announces 290 Galleries for 2026 Flagship Show; Unveils New Public Commissions
Art Basel has unveiled the 290 participating galleries, including 21 new joiners, for its 2026 flagship show in Basel. The edition adds gallery representation from Ivory Coast, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. Maike Cruse, Director of Art Basel in Basel, noted new public commissions by Nairy Baghramian and Ibrahim Mahama as the inaugural Gold Awardees, along with Ruba Katrib’s first edition curating Unlimited and the expansion of Premiere from 10 to 17 presentations. The main Galleries sector will feature 232 international galleries, while Feature, Statements, and Edition sectors add historical, emerging, and print-focused presentations.
The Signal
The additions reflect Art Basel’s strategy to position Basel as the central meeting point where historic depth meets new production, giving collectors direct access to museum-scale works and emerging voices in one context. Public commissions on Messeplatz and Münsterplatz, plus Parcours installations curated by Stefanie Hessler around the theme of conviviality, extend the fair’s presence into the city and signal sustained institutional support for ambitious site-responsive projects. This structure allows galleries and artists to test recent production within a broader historical framework that shapes market visibility.
