Artfarm to Open Chesa Marchetta Hotel in Sils Maria Featuring Works from Hauser & Wirth Collection
Chesa Marchetta, the second hotel from Artfarm following The Fife Arms in Braemar, Scotland, opened this winter 2025 in Sils Maria, Switzerland. The 13-bedroom property and 46-cover restaurant, redeveloped by architect Luis Laplace from a former restaurant and pensiun, features a collection of historic, modern and contemporary works selected by Iwan and Manuela Wirth. Pieces on view include Alberto Giacometti’s ‘L’Atelier de Stampa: “Tête de Diego sur socle” enveloppée dans un linge’ (1956), Philip Guston’s ‘Stone Wall’ (1971), Louise Bourgeois’s ‘SPIDER II’ (1995) and ‘Janus in Leather Jacket’ (1968), Nicolas Party’s ‘Landscape’ (2020), Paul McCarthy’s ‘Santa Long Neck’ (2004) and William Kentridge’s ‘Stroke’ (2022).
The Signal
The project extends Artfarm’s model of cultural hospitality into the Engadin region, placing landmark sculptures and installations throughout public spaces and guest rooms while preserving the building’s historic ties to artists and writers who visited Sils Maria. The restaurant remains open to non-residents and continues the Godly family’s tradition of seasonal Italian-Swiss cuisine. The opening adds a new venue for collectors and curators to encounter works by Giacometti, Bourgeois, McCarthy and others outside traditional gallery or museum settings.
