The Facts

Bourse de Commerce — Pinault Collection in Paris will open 'Le monde selon Penn' on September 16, 2026, presenting nearly 450 photographs by Irving Penn drawn from the Pinault Collection. The installation, housed in Galerie 2 under the umbrella of the exhibition 'Remember Me', spans Penn's career from the 1940s to the early 2000s and features his Corner Portraits, fashion photography, ethnographic reports, nudes, still lifes, and floral compositions. The display avoids a strict chronological or thematic layout, instead creating an immersive dialogue across genres that highlights Penn's rigorous composition, attention to materials, and stripped-down aesthetic. Admission during the run, through October 5, 2026, is reduced to €9 for all, with further discounts for visitors aged 18–26 and other categories.

The Signal

The installation offers a rare opportunity to survey the breadth of Penn's output from the Pinault Collection's significant holdings, previously shown at Palazzo Grassi in 2014–2015. Curated by Matthieu Humery, photography adviser to the collection, with Lola Regard, the presentation positions Penn as a studio photographer whose 'neutral zone' method — using white backdrops and natural light — became a defining visual language. For collectors and curators, the exhibition underscores the continued institutional investment in 20th-century photography masters and the strategic use of large-scale single-artist installations to reframe legacy, while the reduced pricing signals an effort to broaden audience access during the installation's run.
