The Facts

On October 12, 2026, Centre Pompidou announced that its new Centre Pompidou Francilien in Massy, Essonne, will open in March 2027 with the inaugural exhibition "150 000!", named for the 150,000 works of the Musée national d’art moderne collection it will house. Designed by Philippe Chiambaretta and PCA-Stream, the hybrid building combines conservation with 3,000 square meters of public spaces, including a 1,500-square-meter exhibition plateau and rooftop Belvédère. "Prélude!", three discovery weekends in October 2026, will show videos by Christian Boltanski, Clément Cogitore, Douglas Gordon, and Rose Lowder and sculptures by Jean Dubuffet, Marcel Duchamp, Joan Miró, and Germaine Richier. Alexia Fabre, former MAC/VAL director, leads the project; relocating the collection requires two years and 645 semi-trailers.

The Signal

By combining storage with exhibition and education spaces, the project makes collection care visible and positions the museum as a regional public destination networked with Paris-Saclay’s universities and research institutions. For collectors and curators, it reflects a wider institutional push toward transparency about conservation and broader access to national holdings outside capital cities.
