The Facts
Aguttes will auction a Nuage bookshelf by Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) on November 17, 2026, as part of its Arts Décoratifs du XXe & Design sale. The piece, created around 1958, exemplifies Perriand's modular approach to furniture design, inspired by Japanese spatial principles. It was developed for the Miferma mining company's housing project in Cansado, Mauritania, combining sipo wood with aluminum or lacquered steel. The bookshelf will be on public view at Aguttes Neuilly from November 14 to 17, and by appointment in Gennevilliers.
The Signal
The Nuage bookshelf is a landmark of mid-century French design, and its appearance at auction underscores sustained collector interest in Perriand's work. The Miferma commission adds a layer of historical and architectural significance, linking the piece to a large-scale modernist planning project. As the market for vintage design continues to grow, this sale offers a rare opportunity to acquire a piece with both aesthetic and provenance appeal.
