The Facts
The New Museum has received multi-year support for its 2026-27 Artist Residencies from the Daniel Xu and Flora Huang Foundation as part of a partnership that also funds resulting presentations. Major support is provided by the Maja Hoffmann/LUMA Foundation Artists Residency Fund and the Hearst Foundations. Additional backing comes from Christina Hribar, Natascha Jacobs-Linssen, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. The Artist Studio is named for Marion Boulton “Kippy” Stroud, and public performances are supported by the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
The Signal
The multi-year commitment from the Daniel Xu and Flora Huang Foundation signals sustained institutional investment in the New Museum's residency program, which provides emerging and established artists with production resources and public presentation opportunities. The combination of private foundation, individual, and public funding reflects a diversified support model that allows the museum to maintain a robust residency amid broader economic pressures on arts funding. The naming of the studio after Marion Boulton Stroud, a noted textile artist and patron, further anchors the program in the institution's legacy.
