He rose to wider prominence as a member of the progressive rock band The Mars Volta and the alternative rock group Bosnian Rainbows, while also co-founding the band KUDU alongside Sylvia Black.

Parks is recognized for his work as a multi-instrumentalist and composer, often blending new-wave and avant-garde sensibilities. Beyond his band projects, he is one half of the film-scoring duo We Are Dark Angels with Nicci Kasper.
