Tony Oursler was born in 1957 and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the California Institute of the Arts in 1979. He is an American multimedia and installation artist married to painter Jacqueline Humphries, and lives and works in New York City.
Oursler's practice spans video, sculpture, installation, performance, and painting. His signature works often feature projected faces and eyes onto everyday objects or abstract forms, creating disorienting, psychologically charged environments that explore media, technology, and perception.
Oursler is represented by Lehmann Maupin, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2026 and mounted international exhibitions across its New York, London, and Seoul galleries. His work has been widely exhibited and collected by major institutions.
