Florentina Holzinger to Stage One-Night Performance at Bregenz Lakeside as Biennale Satellite
Performance artist Florentina Holzinger will present a new site-specific project, Étude for Bregenz and Lake Constance, on July 11, 2026, at the Bregenz Lakeside Promenade. The one-time performance serves as a satellite event of the 61st Venice Biennale (May 9–November 22, 2026), where Holzinger is representing the Austrian Pavilion with the interdisciplinary commission SEAWORLD VENICE. The Bregenz echo features four drummers, ten performers, a crane, and a bell, exploring feminist spirituality through amphibious choreography in Lake Constance. Admission is free and open to the public, with no reservation required.
The Signal
The project extends Holzinger's Biennale commission beyond Venice, signaling a strategic use of satellite programming by institutions to broaden audience reach. For collectors and curators, the free, one-night-only event underscores Holzinger's standing as a leading voice in performance art and a growing trend of biennial-related off-site projects that create scarcity and site-specific engagement. The work's focus on water mythology and feminist spirituality aligns with broader contemporary discourse around ecological and gender themes.
