Frieze Seoul 2026 Announces LIVE Programme with Art Sonje Center, Featuring Female and Queer Artists
The Facts
The fifth edition of Frieze Seoul will feature a Frieze LIVE programme in partnership with Seoul’s Art Sonje Center, running an off-site programme titled 'off-site 2: Eleven Episodes' from August 26 to October 26, 2026. The programme spotlights female, queer, and intersectional artists, including performances by Korean duo Yagwang—who staged 'Raw Proof' and 'Raw Proof: Echo'—and Chang Younghae, whose pole-dance piece 'climb, fronthook, angel, invert, daphne, figurehead, scorpion, fall, gemini, princess, chopstick' was performed at Kukje Gallery K2. Other participating artists include Sojin Kwak, Ru Kim, Moon Sanghoon, Jaeyun Sung, Hiju Yoon, Jo Hyounjin, Jimin Hah, Sol Han, and Hong Jiyoung.
The Signal
The partnership with Art Sonje Center deepens Frieze Seoul’s commitment to live performance and underrepresented voices, expanding the fair’s footprint beyond its main hall. By centering female and genderqueer Korean talent, the programme signals a deliberate institutional push toward inclusivity in a market that has often favored established international names. For collectors and curators, the focus on live art—an inherently ephemeral and experience-driven medium—offers a counterpoint to the fair’s commercial core, potentially reshaping how value is assigned to performance-based practices in the Asian art market.
